Dear John
Thank you for the media services which you have provided to Stanwell Powerstation over the past 15 months.
During this period you were able to ensure that a large number of Stanwell issues received positive coverage in both the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin and on WIN Television.
With a 100 per cent strike rate (news ideas converted into positive media coverage) you have demonstrated initiative, energy and a level of effectiveness that will be difficult for us to replace.
You displayed high levels of discretion and confidentiality with regard to your use of information about the Station.
I particularly valued these attributes which enabled us to have a very open working relationship.
Feel free to use my name as a referee.
Yours Sincerely
Chris Walker Stakeholder Services Superintendent Phone 07 4930
They had an excellent rollup for the Cairns Acid Sulfate Soils workshop (about 80 people). They had excellent TV coverage on the two local channels. The media even spent a fair bit of time at the actual workshop itself.
I think it was a great help to staff having someone such as yourself making the media contacts and raising awareness etc.

Dear John
I was very sorry to hear that you are leaving us. The quality (and volume!) of information and pictures you have been sending us over the past few months has been excellent.
It makes a nice change to have some good international stories to promote. You have set a precedent that I am not sure your successors will be able to follow!
Best of luck in the future.

John,
On behalf of myself and the remainder of the Barclay Mowlem staff currently working on the Port Waratah Coal Services-Stage 3 Expansion Project, I would like to thank you very much for your efforts in getting substantial exposure of the project in both local and national newspapers and magazines.
This has had a positive affect on all personnel working on the project, to know the efforts they have been putting in here on site are being displayed to the wider community and not just recognised site wide.
Once again I would like to thank you for the coverage and assistance you have been able to provide. This coverage would almost certainly not have been able to be achieved without your assistance.
Yours Sincerely,

Dear John,
I have just had Barclay Mowlem complete the construction of our new warehouse at Brisbane Airport Corporation’s Export Park, however, your communication expertise was an unexpected surprise.
Thank you for all your hard work in not just writing from Barclay Mowlem’s perspective but also for taking great photographs, sharing them with Crazy Clark’s and for doing additional media releases that highlighted our views and retailing plans, plus your employer’s viewpoint.
Once again, an unexpected surprise.
Stay client-focused.

Dear John,
On behalf of Dow AgroSciences I would like to thank you for your assistance with this years Dow AgroSciences Landcare Grants program. Dow AgroSciences has a very beneficial relationship with Landcare Australia and due to the help received from you this has been furthered strengthened to each parties benefit.
Your experience in communications and marketing coupled with your enthusiasm greatly increased the awareness of the Landcare Grants program. I appreciated your negotiation skills and ability to blend our agricultural core business, positive service delivery, client concerns and even governmental needs into the same feature story. This mix, combined with your photographic ability, successfully put our message before a regional, state and even national audience.
We hope that the next person employed by the Queensland Government and Landcare will have a similar can-do and client-focused attitude.
Dow AgroSciences wishes you well in your future endeavours.
Yours faithfully,

Dear John,
I just wanted to put on record that your work has been highly beneficial to me and my career.
The key has been your ability to “de-jargonise” and popularise the sort of science that I do. And I want to personally thank-you for the 30 or so articles that you’ve written, covering all aspects of my research.
Of course, it’s only because of your wide range of sources that these articles have gone out to so many media locations. I might be able to write full-blown scientific articles but you got me on ABC regional radio! You even got me into a “greenie” newspaper – where my work was warmly applauded as low cost and sustainable.
Your ability to rapidly produce these articles remains most impressive! Also, they’re “bite-size” and attractive to the lay-person – quite unlike my sombre scientific works!
I have learned a great deal from you, both story and photography-wise, and I sincerely thank you for that. We’ve only worked together for about 12 months, but the articles you produced have been a significant bonus to my scientific career.
Many and sincere thanks.

IRRIGATION SYSTEM FOR CAMREAY HOLDINGS PTY LTD
I refer to the attached letter I recently received from Graham and Kate Campbell of Camreay Holdings Pty Ltd, Bundaberg.
It is with pleasure that I note the enthusiasm expressed by the Campbell’s with respect to your part in successfully researching, advising and reporting on the use of effluent water and waste products from the Thabeban Sewage Works, in their farming operations. I commend you for your part in this research and extension effort, and the contribution this has made towards reaffirming the Department’s reputation as a provider of sound research support and advice to the rural sector.
It is through the efforts of officers like yourself, contributing in your own right or collectively as part of a team, that the Department is able to stay at the forefront of sustainable natural resource management. Again, I thank you for your efforts and I look forward to your future contributions to the success of DNR.

Dear Sir,
We wish to advise you of a recent success our company achieved which was primarily due to the help we received from some of your distinguished employees.
I would like to take this opportunity to give a little background of the work done in our area.
We have a cane farm in the Bundaberg area, which 10 years ago was water starved and happened to back on to the Thabeban Sewage works.
Through the articles written by John Sanderson (DNR journalist) over the past 6 months regarding the work we have done it has helped the public to become a little more open minded about a product that needs to be utilized now rather than being put in the two hard basket and becoming more of an environmental problem. John like Glen Barry has encouraged us and his articles have helped in overcoming the stigma that is often attached to using products such as sewage sludge and effluent water.
Two weeks ago we were fortunate enough to win the Innovators Award for 1999 in the Bundaberg area from our local Productivity Committee.
This award has been achieved through the assistance and encouragement of Glen Barry in particular, and Phil Bloesch, and Ted Gardner with the resources available to us from the DNR/DPI research facility at Indooroopilly. Without this help we would have had to give up on using a product that is proving to be extremely successful for us, and the environment.
We feel the assistance of these people and the laboratories at Indooroopilly deserve the acknowledgement that we have recently received and we thank you and the Department for a tremendous effort.
THANK YOU.
Yours faithfully,
Graham and Kate Campbell.
Dear John
In the most recent issue of Australian Sugarcane I see that there are 2 pages of articles on our model Sugarcost & on the Effluent Training Course, both of which prominently feature a DNR person ( ie me ).
In the latest issue of the Irrigators Assoc of Australia I see a number of articles including the beneficial use of effluent & biosolids on sugarcane , the MEDLI and RUSTIC models ,and the Effluent Irrigation Training course. All are DNR projects.
In both magazines the author is yourself. I would like to thank you for your very successful efforts in communicating our science outputs to the lay community. This is a very important aspect of turning data into knowledge for the benefit of our stakeholders. Well done & keep up your excellent work.
Cheers

Appreciation for teaching at Media Workshop conducted by NRM for State Landcare groups
Congratulations John, on an excellent workshop. You had those happy little landcarers eating out of your hand!
They really enjoyed your presentation, the entertainment AND the information.
I think the photos thing is a bit of a hidden need. I’d never heard it mentioned before, but they were thirsty for whatever you could tell them. Good topic for a workshop on its own.
I thought your part of the workshop was entertaining and informative, and they all got a lot out of it, so, good on you!
ciao, claire

I just wanted to say thank you for your help over the past few months – I would not have made it through without you being here.
Whenever I was feeling a little bit down or stressed, you were always there to cheer me up with one of your zany comments, and I really appreciate that.
You are a great team player and I think our crazy Department was much better off for having you on board.
I feel privileged to have worked with you and I will really miss having you around as I am moving on.
I hope it all works out well for you at NRM as you are very talented.
You have taught me heaps- both at work and personally.
