“There is no way that Bradman broke his leg,” said a spokesman for the Bradman Museum in Bowral, New South Wales.
So I mentioned that a lady in Rockhampton had given me a tip off that Bradman was carted off to hospital back in 1930, when she was a young lady, and one of the sports groupies. “OK OK, we will phone Bradman at his home in Adelaide and clear this up.” They only ever phoned The Don if it was serious.

This toilet (dunny) story is printed as a public service for young Australians who want to remember more than porcelain smelling of disinfectant. Some of us have fond memories the dunny man hurrying down the road with a leaky “nightsoil” can resting on his shoulder. He was a folk hero, tougher than any rugby league player and we’re probably just too neurotic about germs today.
